日本の街中でまたも「変な英語」がアメリカ人を困惑させています！「お客様へのお願い」として書かれた「キッチン内の食べ物のみでお願いします」という意図の英語が、ネイティブには意味不明だと指摘されました。
特に問題なのは、「When We see that」という表現がスタッフとお客様を別人として認識させ、「it」が何を指すのか曖昧で物体のように聞こえてしまう点。スタッフがルールを破る人を見かけたら声をかける、というシンプルなメッセージが全く伝わっていません。
この「変な英語」は、お客様が「声をかけられるのが嫌」と思わない可能性すら生じさせます。ネイティブが「直せない」とまで言う日本の英語表記、一体どうすればこのコミュニケーション不全は解消できるのでしょうか？
